Frequently Asked Questions
Frequently Asked Questions:
Q: My child has never played water polo but can swim. Should we still sign up?
-
Yes! Our program is designed for beginners and young athletes who are still learning the game. As long as your child is water-safe and comfortable in the pool, we’ll teach them the fundamentals of water polo in a supportive, fun environment.
Q: How well does my child need to swim to play water polo?
-
Players should be able to swim at least 25 yards without stopping and be comfortable treading water. We tailor practices to the age and skill level of each group.
Q: Do you offer a trial practice or beginner session?
-
Yes! Reach out to us and we can have you and your child can try it out with no commitment. It is best to try 2-3 days in a row to get a good feel for it.
Q: We have summer (or holiday) travel planned and may miss a few practices or games. Is that okay?
-
Yes! We know families have busy schedules, especially in the summer and around holidays. While regular attendance helps your child improve and build team chemistry, we fully understand if you need to miss a few practices or games due to travel. Just let your coach know in advance.
Q: My child is in another sport. Can we still do both?
-
Absolutely. Many of our athletes play multiple sports, especially summer swim league which is GREAT for both polo and swimming.
Q: Should we still sign up if we know we’ll miss the start or end of the season?
-
Yes—join us! We’d love to have your child in the pool, even if it's just for part of the season. Some water polo is better than none, and we can help make it a great experience regardless of timing.
Q: What is Bay Area Polo’s coaching philosophy?
-
We focus on building confident, skilled athletes who love being in the water. Our coaches emphasize fundamentals, teamwork, and fun, while also teaching kids how to compete respectfully and grow through the sport.
Q: Do you cut players or have tryouts?
-
No, our core program is open to all skill levels. We welcome new players at every age.
Q: Are there financial aid or scholarship options?
-
Yes—we’re committed to making water polo accessible to all!
